Spring by Alphonse Mucha |
Ostara has also been spelled "Eostre" and "Eastre". Have you ever wondered where the name "Easter" came from and why we focus on bunnies and eggs during this holiday? It came from the European Pagan holiday and goddess "Ostara", the goddess of fertility, abundance, new beginnings, prosperity and personal growth.
Ostara is the Pagan holiday associated with Spring Equinox when the short, cold days and long frigid nights of Winter cycle into days and nights of more equal length, allowing more sunshine to penetrate the Earth. Thus, the rebirth of the Sun...or some might view it as the resurrection of the Sun! :)
For more information on Ostara and the Spring Equinox, go to You Call it Easter, We Call it Ostara.
For a natural, earth centered, non - toxic, eco - friendly way to dye Ostara eggs this year, consider using frozen blueberries, yellow onions, beets and vinegar to beautify your eggs. Before dying your eggs, draw symbols, pictures, words and anything else that can convey your aspirations, wishes and hopes for personal growth, abundance & prosperity with a white crayon. The wax will leave the design on the egg after you have dyed it, then you can eat the egg with your hopes and dreams and allow these intentions to manifest within your body. Happy Eastre!
